This looks to be a year in which Beacon Hill takes bold action on climate change, and so far two of North Andover’s legislators – state Rep. Tram Nguyen, D-Andover, and state Sen. Diana DiZoglio – are putting their support behind a bold set of climate change initiatives.
State Sen. Marc Pacheco, D-Taunton, and state Rep. Ruth Balser, D-Newton, announced Monday that more than 80 state legislators have signed on to support of a statement titled, “A New Year’s Resolution: Committing to the Enactment and Implementation of Bold Climate Solutions in 2019.”
Nguyen, elected to represent the Essex 18th House district in November, cited last fall’s Columbia Gas explosions as one reason for her support.
“My Merrimack Valley community suffered from a devastating gas disaster this past year. The damage was significant and the loss of life was heartbreaking,” Nguyen said in a statement Monday. “The explosions showed that fossil fuels are a threat to our homes and families and risk the safety of our residents. Cleaner and safer alternatives are available – we need to drive higher demand for wind, solar, and hydropower in the Commonwealth to move toward 100 percent renewable energy future.”
