NORTH ANDOVER — More than 100 people filled the barroom at Hokkaido Restaurant Tuesday night, awaiting the entrance of the hero of the evening, Tram Nguyen.
Nguyen, her face flushed with excitement, finally entered the room.
As soon as she announced the results — that she had defeated longtime incumbent Republican Rep. Jim Lyons — the room exploded into cheers and she took the stage for her victory speech.
“Just look at me,” said Nguyen. “My family came here with $100 to our name and now I am standing here before you as a state representative. I want to be able to continue to work with you to create a stronger, brighter, and more inclusive and welcoming district.”
